My Top 5 Organic Beauty Products
By Niki Hampton
Though this is a totally subjective list, it is based on the fact that all of these brands use organic ingredients. There are some brands not mentioned here that also are organic. These products are manufactured using plant based extracts or herbs. Some of these products are certified by third-party auditors that regularly check that the products are manufactured in compliance of the certification standards.
Organic beauty products do not use any artifical colors or fragrances, petroleum products or its derivatives, fillers, silicones, polymers (plastics), preservatives or potentially harmful substances to humans or the environment. The ingredients used are not grown using any fertilizers, synthetic chemicals or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Therefore, ingredients used in the manufacture and the processing of truly organic beauty products are of a higher standard than the typical beauty products. The advantage to this is that these organic beauty products do not pose a health danger to consumers.
Bare Escentuals
This brand advertises that the product is “so pure you can sleep in it ®”. The award winning formula is free of irritating oils, talc, fillers, preservatives, waxes, fragrances and binders. The formulas work for every skin type and tone. It also carries the Skin Cancer foundation Seal of Recommendation since the SPF15 Foundation shields against UVA and UVB rays of the sun year-round. Bare Escentuals uses minerals in its make-up in order to nuture your skin into beauty.
The added beauty (if you will pardon the pun) to this brand is that it offers “Get Started Beauty Kits” for a discount (if you were to buy all of the included articles separately). Brushes are included as well as several products and a “How-To” DVD.
Tarte
Unable to find healthy cosemetics, the founder decided to create an “earth engineered beauty” product line using minerals, vitamins, natural fruit and plant extracts and skin vigorating ingredients including a propriety T5 super fruit complex (a blend of the five most active, free-radical fighting super fruits available – acai, acerola, maracuja, pomergranate and goji). This brand is formulated without synthetic fragrances, phthalates and parabens. Additionally, the packaging, including the cases and compacts, are made from recyclable or post-consumer recycled materials in order to minimize the brand’s carbon footprint.
Nvey Eco
Pricey, yet one of the few certified organic beauty products, Nvey Eco beauty products are made using natural botanical extracts, plant and mineral ingredients, and powerful antioxidants to make a pure but gentle solution. That means no talc, preservatives, petroleum – nothing but pure, natural ingredients that comes a variety in colors.
Korres
Herbs, Greek flora, food ingredients and high-efficacy natural ingredients with a touch of technology produce a wide range of moisturizers, creams, masks, powders, eye creams and eye shadows. Antioxidants, vitamins and minerals are used to create skin-friendly and eco-friendly products.
Saffron Rouge
Saffron Rouge has a standing policy that any product it carries must have at least one organic body care certificate or provide sufficient evidence that the product contains as much certified organic content as possible and it cannot even contain one “Black List” ingredient. “Black List” ingredients include petroleum products, articificial colors and fragrances, silicones, polymers (plastics) and any other potentially harmful ingredients to either human or the environment.
